Beavers are the youngest section in scouting. They start are 6 years old and move in to cubs at around 8-8.5. Like all sectons we have a mixture of boys and girls. There are an average of 20 beavers in the colony. There are 4 dedicated leaders and one helpful and enthusiastic young leader. In beavers, we work towards challenge badges, staged badges, and activity badges. This involves day trips, sleepovers, and weekly Tuesday night meetings full of fun and friends. Beavers love being fun, creative, and trying new things. The section has a waiting list, but please get in touch if you would like your child to get involved.
Hi, I'm Jo, Beaver leader at portobello and have been for 20 years. We welcome young people to our first section of scouting. It is extremly rewarding to experience the personal development, learning, and team building in preparation for the next section, cubs. The expression "eager beavers" is totally appropriate. Together we learn about ourselves, other people, the community we live in, and begin our outdoor adventure.
Hi! ☺ My name is Beth. I have been in scouting all my life, but only joined Porto as a scout. I am now an assistant leader with the beavers; I really enjoy my role and helping the beavers grow in confidence.
Hi, my name is Megan! I have been at Portobello Scout Group since I was 6 years old. I was the first girl at Portobello. I am currently an assistant Beaver leader and I love scouting. I enjoy taking the beavers camping and helping them learn new skills.
Hello! My name is Ellie, I have been a member of scouting since I was 13 and in a short 5 years I have thoroughly enjoyed learning lots of life skills which I now intend to teach the young people at Portobello Beaver Scout Group as a young leader. My favourite part of beavers is playing lots of games.
