Below are the team of leaders that volunteer to help the group with a little bit of information about them.
Hi my name is Keith, Group Scout Leader (GSL) at Portobello. I have been in scouting over 35 years as Scout, Senior Scout, Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader. I started scouting back in 1962 as a Scout going onto being a Senior Scout. In 1966 left to pursue a career in the Merchant Navy. 17 years later I left the Merchant Navy to work ashore. Thinking of my brief adventure in scouting I decided to join scouts and become a Leader. So in 1984 I joined Portobello Scout Group as the Scout leader, and was a Leader for 15years, then I took on the role of GSL which I’m still actively doing. Over the years, as a Leader, I’ve seen a large number of young people come up through scouting, now I’m seeing the children of these ex-scouts joining the group. I’ve enjoyed and still enjoy my scouting, watching the young people growing up, gaining confidence, appreciating the environment and enjoying camping in this country and abroad.
Hi, I'm Jo, Beaver leader at portobello and have been for 20 years. We welcome young people to our first section of scouting. It is extremly rewarding to experience the personal development, learning, and team building in preparation for the next section, cubs. The expression "eager beavers" is totally appropriate. Together we learn about ourselves, other people, the community we live in, and begin our outdoor adventure.
Hi! ☺ My name is Beth. I have been in scouting all my life, but only joined Porto as a scout. I am now an assistant leader with the beavers; I really enjoy my role and helping the beavers grow in confidence.
Hi, my name is Megan! I have been at Portobello Scout Group since I was 6 years old. I was the first girl at Portobello. I am currently an assistant Beaver leader and I love scouting. I enjoy taking the beavers camping and helping them learn new skills.
Hello! My name is Ellie, I have been a member of scouting since I was 13 and in a short 5 years I have thoroughly enjoyed learning lots of life skills which I now intend to teach the young people at Portobello Beaver Scout Group as a young leader. My favourite part of beavers is playing lots of games.
Hi, I'm Lee, scout leader at Porto. I started scouting when I was 8. I am proud member of Porto. Some of my greatest memories are of being away as a scout, so knowing I'm providing the same opportunities for others means a lot to me.
Hi, I'm Dan. I started scouts when I was 6. I have enjoyed going to multiple jamborees across the UK and other scouting trips abroad. Having grown up in scouting I am eager to pass on the life skills I have gained in scouting to the younger scouts.
